Recent changes in digital marketing and analytics will soon require a fundamental shift in the way we have historically analyzed data trends in Search Engine Marketing. Reporting will be limited due to Apple’s IOs14 treatment of 3rd party cookies. The decline of 3rd party cookies was, in many ways, the reason for Google’s upgrade to Google Analytics 4 and the discontinuation of Universal Analytics (GA3), effect July 2023. Recently, Google has pushed it’s discontinuation of 3rd party cookies until later in 2025, as well.
With the eventual deprecation of 3rd party cookies, Google will take smaller samples of data that are available, and apply learnings to larger segments of anonymous user groups. The way we interpret internet traffic and optimize for efficiency will require more focus on automated PPC campaigns (ie Performance Max) to regain profitable traffic many retailers have lost on Facebook.
